Day 56 - The last day!

Breakfast - 11.00 - Cheese Toasties
Lunch - 15.00 - Chips
Tea - 19.00 - Lentil Dhal

I began this performance to challenge the ideas surrounding sustainable cuisine. The ease, the cost (£) and most important of all, the green issues.

Gone are the days of blissful ignorance whilst shopping. I keep thinking 'Locally produced pesticides or organic food miles?' I don't think I've bought anything (edible or otherwise) for the last 56 days without considering it's green credentials. Additionally the cost wasn't really an issue, unless you're swapping everything you already buy for the supermarket organic version it works out cheaper (for me anyway).

It took creativity and serious compromise to cope for this long and I certainly told myself a few little green lies along the way. Overall if you're willing to return to home cooking with preparation and food love you can do it.

Day 53, 54 and 55

Lately I've been really busy with deadlines approaching so my blogging has taken a backseat.

Breakfast - 08.00 - cornflakes
Lunch - 11.00 - Cheese and pitta bread
Snack - 14.00 - raisons
Snack - 14.40 - Yoghurt
Tea - 18.30 - Chicken and chip sandwiches.


Hannah bought me a 'map of the world' ice cube tray today, I'm excited to have continents floating in my drinks...

Colette and I were in the Hopkinson Gallery after it closed today and the staff member offered us soem free food that he was otherwise throwing away. I ate some, despite it not being organic/local it was otherwise going to landfill. Food waste is as important an issue as unsustainable food.

Lunch - 14.00 - Pasta and pesto
Snack - 15.55 - yoghurt
Snack - 17.50 - flapjack
Tea - 21.40 - Curry with rice and bread
Ingredients - Onion, Garlic, chilli, pepper, tinned tomatoes and rice.

Lunch - 12.30 - Left over curry and rice
Snack - 15.00-17.00 Raisins
Tea - Mincey spicey rice
Ingredients - Minced beef, onion, garlic, chilli, tinned toms, corrriander (fresh and ground), leeks.

Day 49 and 50

Breakfast - 13.00 - Cornflakes
Lunch - 15.00 - Bacon sandiwch and toast
Tea - 19.00 - Chicken in tomato sauce with fried aubergine, cheese and salad.

I went shopping today and bought loads of meat. I am getting really sick of being vegetarian. It was expensive but so worth it!

Snack - 09.50 - CHOCOLATE!!
Lunch - 11.45 - Pasta salad
Ingredients - Pasta, mixed salad leaves, onion, home made pestop using bacon oil, basil.
Snack - 16.00 - Cheese sandwich
Snack - 16.10 - chocolate
Tea - 17.45 - Cheese sandwich

Chris brought me some chocolate from the Eden Project in Cornwall. I was VERY happy. It's one thing that I've been craving a lot lately. Most of the ingredients were grown in the Eden Project itself, whilst some were inported it's not very specific on the packaging which would be nice. It's an environmental charity after all.

Otherwise I was very happy to wat chocolate.

Day 48

Breakfast - 09.45 - Cornflakes
Lunch - 12.30 - Toast
Snack - 2.45 - Organic flapjack
Snack - 18.45 - Pancakes
Tea - 19.50 - Vegetable fritters, mash and salad with pesto
Ingredients - Pepper, onion, leek, egg, herbs, potato, milk, butter, mixed salad leaves and pesto.

I've been lovingly growing some basil for pesto and it's started to wilt. The leaves at the bottom are beginning to crisp up. I hope it isn't dying!

Day 46 and 47 - Tupperwear

Ingredients - Pasta, mixed salad leaves, pesto, onion, pepper, cheese, kidney beans.
Snack - 22.30 - Chip butty

Today I've been out all day so I prepared all my food this morning. I felt like a bit of a whally with all this tupperwear piled up on my desk but at least I'm not going hungry.

Snack - 14.00 - Cheese, lettuce and onion sandwich
Snack - 19.00 - Cheese, lettuce and onion sandwice
Tea - 23.00 - 2 fried eggs on toast with baked beans.

Today I was out all day preparing an exhibition and attending the private view. I prepared and took all my food with me but it wasn't really enoulgh. I was really tempted to get something to eat that wasn't sustainable but I resisted and had food when I got in. All in all, a good 2 days!

Day 45 - Veg box day

Breakfast - 10.00 - Fried egg sandwich
Lunch - 11.50 - Pasta and pesto
Snack - 14.00 - Pasta and pesto
Tea - 18.30 - Veggie bake
Ingredients - Tomato, onion, mushrooms, mixed herbs, salt, red pepper, potato and cheese. I made a sauce with all teh ingredients appart from the potato and cheese. I layered the potato between layers of sauce and covered with cheese and baked in the oven. It was pretty good, a little jucier than I'd have liked, next time I'll make the sauce much thicker and add more cheese ontop. Looks kind of uninviting but it tasted good and filled a hole.

In my veg box today I got:
Aubergine,
Onion,
Potatoes,
Leeks,
mushrooms,
peppers,
Salad.
